The Words of Jesus – Part 2

1. Jesus’ Words about Sacrifice 24th April 2022

At 4am on the 25th April, 1915 the Anzacs landed at Gallipoli in Turkey. After 8 grueling months they withdrew, leaving behind 8,000 dead and 19,000 wounded. 107 years on we don’t remember the defeat but the sacrifice of those young men. In this sermon we’re going to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus, how he gave up his divine glory, and his life in order to save sinners like you and me. We’re going to look at what it means to reflect Jesus’ sacrificial love in our own lives. This Anzac Sunday we’re going to see what role sacrifice has in our daily lives.

2. Jesus’ Words about Work 1st May 2022

Monday the 2nd of May is Labour Day, where we celebrate an eight-hour working day. This Sunday I want to look at what Jesus says about work. We’re going to look at the work that Jesus did, in creation and as a carpenter and a Rabbi. This Sunday you’re not just celebrating Labour Day but we’re going to celebrate Jesus’ work on the cross and you are going to be challenged by how you have been called to work for Jesus.

3. Is Jesus Good for Women? 8th May 2022

This Sunday is Mother’s Day, and we’re going to focus on the question: Is Jesus good for women? Is Jesus good for young girls, for mothers, and for elderly women and widows? Because in our world today many women think that being a Christian means signing up for oppression and outdated views of submission. They think that following Jesus isn’t good for women. This Sunday we’re going to examine the words Jesus said to women, the things he said about women, and how he treated women. We’re going to see that Jesus is good for women, and the more people are like Jesus the better it will be for women.

4. Jesus’ Words About Children 15th May 2022

Text: Mark 10:13-16; Matthew 18:1-6

This morning we’re going to look at how Jesus saw children and what he says about children. Jesus not only cared deeply about children and their welfare, but he saw them as belonging in God’s kingdom. What’s more he calls us to be like children. This Sunday we’re going to be challenged in our attitude towards children.

5. Jesus’ Words About Government 22nd May 2022

Text: Matthew 22:15-22; Romans 13:1-7; 1 Peter 2:13-17

This Saturday is the Federal Election, but sometimes it feels like we’re making the best of a bad choice. How should we respond as Christians when we have a government we didn’t vote for, or even one who doesn’t support our biblical values or religious freedom. This Sunday we’re going to look at what Jesus says about government and what he means by ‘render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.’ We’re going to look at what is the purpose of government, the limitations of government, what we owe our government, and what we owe God.

6. Jesus’ Words About His Ascension 29th May 2022

Text: John 16:5-11; Act 1:8-11

We often don’t think too much about Jesus’ ascension, but this morning we’re going to see that it is more than just Jesus returning home. Jesus’ ascension has huge advantages for us. We’re going to see how it’s a foretaste of what awaits us. We’re going to look at how Jesus sends the Holy Spirit, how he prepares a place for us in heaven, and how he intercedes for us. Jesus’ ascension isn’t the end of his ministry the beginning of his reign as King over all creation.

7. Jesus’ Words About The Spirit 5th June 2022

Text: Acts 2:1-4

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. But what is Pentecost and why is it so significant? This Sunday we’re going to see that you can’t be a Christian without Pentecost. We’re going to look at the Spirit in the life and ministry of Jesus and also the role of the Spirit in our own lives. And we’re going to focus on the what Jesus teaches about the Holy Spirit, who He is and what He came to do. This Sunday we’re going to see what it means to live in light of Pentecost.

8. Jesus’ Words About Service 12th June 2022

Text: John 13:1-17

There is something about serving others that feels good. This Sunday we’re gong to look at how Jesus has served us, and how he calls us to serve others. We’re going to look at not only how Jesus served us but his attitude towards serving us. There are some dangers that we need to beware, but we’re going to see all the different ways that Jesus calls us to serve other people, and how we can reflect his attitude in our service. This Sunday I want to encourage you to commit to serving God and his people!

9. Jesus’ Words About Leadership 19th June 2022

Text: Mark 10:35-45; 1 Pet 5:1-3

Leadership qualities aren’t just for leaders, but for all God’s people. We all lead in one context or another! The question is do we lead like the world does, or like Jesus does? Do we lord our authority over others, or do we use our authority to serve others? In our text this Sunday Jesus says those who wish to the first or the greatest aren’t just those who serve others, but those who see themselves as slaves! This Sunday we’re going to look at seven character traits of leaders and we’re going to see how Jesus calls ordinary everyday people to be the sort of people other people want to follow.

10. Jesus’ Words About Professing Your Faith 26th June 2022

Text: Matthew 10:26-33

Why do we ask people to profess their faith in Jesus in front of the church? This Sunday we’re going to look at what Jesu says about professing our faith. If you’ve ever wondered why it’s important Jesus gives us four reasons to profess our faith in him. And if you’ve ever been afraid to profess your faith Jesus gives us three reasons not to be afraid. Come alone this Sunday and hear Ben profess his faith in Jesus and why you should do the same, not just in front of the church, but every single day of your life.
